Reference
a geologist friend wrote about the composition of the stone [without seeing it in person] 'The rock type is soapstone, predominately comprised of the mineral talc and a hardness on Moh’s scale of 1 [out of 10- diamond] with minor other phyllite [ie chlorite] and amphibole minerals and in this case with some natural iron oxide staining. It is likely the stone came from the greater Revelstoke area where there are known occurrences. I Googled William [Bill] Cameron and came across an article about him. He was a logger who came across a deposit of serpentine/soapstone while building a logging road and with some friends took up stone carving. Grizzly bears are appropriate since he apparently came across them often.'
